Another pic from yesterday, shot at dusk. I’ll be heading back to this spot on a clear day to get the mountains in the background.

Secret Fireworks
Jessie and I headed up to a secret location tonight to catch the San Diego fireworks. It didn’t disappoint. Check out a few more photos after the break. Enjoy!
My New Bundle of Joy Has Arrived
Ok, not the bundle of joy that poops. My new Nikon D300s showed up today, much to the delight of well, just me. The “s” stands for video, among a few other updates. So, just to recap, “s” is for video. Makes sense, right? Why not “v” for video? Who knows.
So, like any proud new owner, I took it out for a quick spin around Balboa Park. Nothing too exciting yet, but I’m looking forward doing some further test shoots in the future.
For those that want the meat and potatoes, here goes… Lenses used: Nikon 10.5mm 2.8, 50mm 1.4, 17-55mm 2.8, and 70-200mm 2.8 VR. Colored using Mojo Effects. I didn’t bring my video tripod, hence the jerky pans. Also, I don’t have a follow-focus setup yet, so we can blame the jerky rack focusing on that.
Ocean Beach Video
It’s January and as usual, we are getting gypped on the weather. I know people extol the virtues of our year-round sunny-and-seventy weather, but come on, how about a little variety. When Florida of all places gets snow, you know you’re really getting screwed.
For those of you who are snow-bound right now, I took advantage of our weather and shot a little video of Ocean Beach. You know, to warm your spirits. You can tell that it’s not below freezing because some people are wearing shorts – and not just the crazy ones. Enjoy and if you get the chance to send some real winter weather down my way, please do.
Motion: Clouds
I’m jealous. Jealous of the east coast with their seasons, cool weather, and occasional snow. Being in San Diego, we usually get “Sunny and 70,” which is great, but extremely boring. That is, until today. I woke up to clouds in the sky, cool weather, and the feeling that maybe fall is coming. Finally.
In honor of the fall-ness, I decided to make a short time lapse video. I dusted off my fish-eye lens and set the camera in the freshly-washed front window. One frame every 10 seconds, and about three hours later, I had my video. Enjoy.
PhotoShootapalooza

Some people use their dining room tables for eating. I use mine as a photo studio. It doesn’t really work for people (or animals), but it’s fine for small objects. Two lights and six pieces of foam-core are all you need. Oh, and a camera. You need one of those, too.
While we’re on the topic of photos, I had the opportunity to tackle two photo shoots over the past month. The first entailed a few portraits for a so-cal company, and the second was for a state-wide magazine.
After the break, take a look at a few fruits of my labor. Enjoy!
Red Bull Air Race

A few friends and I headed out to the Red Bull Air Races today here in San Diego. For those who’ve never heard of the races, here’s a quick explanation from the Red Bull website:
Using the fastest, most agile and lightweight racing planes, pilots navigate a low-level aerial track made up of air-filled pylons, flying at speeds reaching 370 km/h (230 mph) while withstanding forces of up to 12g.
Besides coming away with a sunburn, I also came away with some photos. Take a look at a few more initial shots after the break…

Photos: Company of Thieves

Wednesday night, Jessie and I headed up to the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach and saw the band Company of Thieves perform. I had arranged a photo pass (which was just a free ticket we gave away), and I took some photos. I was nice to get out and exercise my camera operating skills. You can check out the rest after the break. Enjoy!

A Nice Day for the Park
Where does everyone go on a nice Sunday afternoon in San Diego? Apparently Balboa Park, which is why it took us 15 minutes to find a parking spot. Once we did, Jessie and I headed out to shoot some test video for an upcoming project. Once we got home, I threw together this short video for your visual enjoyment. The video was color graded to give it a warm feel. Hope you enjoy!
