A few days ago, Jessie put our sponge on the window sill to dry out. While waiting for lunch to cook, I imagined it was just lounging on the sill, taking in the sun and nice breeze. Some green wire and a couple of thumb tacks later, I had my spongy guy. A few minutes after I finished, lunch was ready.

Secret Fireworks
Jessie and I headed up to a secret location tonight to catch the San Diego fireworks. It didn’t disappoint. Check out a few more photos after the break. Enjoy!
My New Bundle of Joy Has Arrived
Ok, not the bundle of joy that poops. My new Nikon D300s showed up today, much to the delight of well, just me. The “s” stands for video, among a few other updates. So, just to recap, “s” is for video. Makes sense, right? Why not “v” for video? Who knows.
So, like any proud new owner, I took it out for a quick spin around Balboa Park. Nothing too exciting yet, but I’m looking forward doing some further test shoots in the future.
For those that want the meat and potatoes, here goes… Lenses used: Nikon 10.5mm 2.8, 50mm 1.4, 17-55mm 2.8, and 70-200mm 2.8 VR. Colored using Mojo Effects. I didn’t bring my video tripod, hence the jerky pans. Also, I don’t have a follow-focus setup yet, so we can blame the jerky rack focusing on that.
When You’re Not Home
Just a quick video I shot today to test out a few film effects. Additionally, I wanted to capture the peacefulness of an empty house in the middle of the day. No people and no TV, Just the sunlight streaming through the windows and the cool breeze rustling the blinds.
Camera: I’m on a Trip!
If you look back to my last post a month ago, I wrote about sending a camera on a trip across the country. Where would it go? What would it see? Would it ever make it back?
Well, it’s been more than a “few days,” but it finally started the journey on Friday. I know where it’s going for the first stop, but after that it’s anyone’s guess. I’m not sure how long the trip will take, but I’m guessing 3-4 months. It could take years though, depending on how long each person keeps the camera.
As a photographer, I’ve captured people and places, but only from places I’ve been and only from a perspective I know. By sending this camera on a trip, I hoping to see places I’ve never seen before, and photos from perspectives I’ve never thought of before.
On a side note, I’m curious how we’re all connected. I’m sending the camera to someone I know, and in turn they’re sending it to someone they know. By time it gets back to me, it will have passed through 27 hands, all connected to each other.
The camera should arrive at it’s first stop in the next few days. If you happen to get the camera in the mail, feel free to add anything that will fit into the box, be it a small souvenir or trinket.
In next few months, I’ll be looking for the camera to show up in my mailbox. When it does, I’ll have the photos developed and share them on this blog. This coming week, I’ll give everyone a peek at what’s in the box. Stay tuned.
Let’s go on a trip!

If you could take a road trip across America, where would you go? What would you want to see? Who would you like to meet?
Now imagine a trip where each person you met decided where you were going next. In the next few days, I’ll be sending off a small camera on a trip – all by itself. I’ll send it to the first person, who will use it to take one picture of anything they want. Once they’re done, they’ll decide where it goes next.
The camera has 27 exposures, so I’m hoping it visits 27 places before it makes it’s way back home. Will it make it? Hopefully.
If it does, I’ll get the film developed and upload the pictures to this blog, including who it visited and where it went. Stay tuned for more information.
Ode to Beards + PMA

Jessie and I just got back from PMA, one of the biggest yearly photography trade shows. This year it was held in scenic Anaheim, CA, which is only a 1.5 hour drive from San Diego. Between the close proximity and free passes to boot, I believe the phrase “I want to go to there” was uttered.
It’s unfortunate that I haven’t attended many trade shows in the past, because it was a great experience talking to company reps in person. Who did we drop by and visit? Sony, Nikon, Borrowlenses.com, Moo.com, Lightpanels, ThinkTank, Lowepro, and, well, many more. Who can pass up a free tiger. I’ve been looking at a Lightpanels light package, so it was great to find out what kit I actually needed.
When you’re back home adding up all the brochures, catalogs, and schwag from the day, I believe the only way to quantify it is by weight. My take? About 3.5 pounds.
On an unrelated note, I came across “10 Very Good Reasons Why You Should Grow a Giant Beard.” If I had seen this a few weeks ago, I might have held off on the beard removal. After all, it’s winter and beards are apparently great for sledding (Reason #3). Check out the rest here.
Oldies but Goodies

No, I’m not talking about myself… or my parents. I’ve just added a few older videos to my portfolio section, mostly from 2000-2006. Remember those days? Neither do I. If you want to check them out, some in their 4×3 standard definition goodness, just click on the “video portfolio” link above. Can’t make it that far with your mouse? Here’s a link.
ps. Does “Holiday Matinee” ring a bell to you? Don’t worry, I’ve left that one out.
